Due to increased security concerns in many of the countries Women for Women International work in, it is important for them to take security measures to protect the women in the program. We fully respect the security of the women we sponsor, and therefore won't be sharing any photos or personal details which may compromise their safety, unless they have given us specific permission.
This is our first sister from South Sudan. She is currently in her 3rd module and she will be learning:
- About her rights to vote, own land, and have custody of her children;
- That she is equal to the men in her family and community
- About national laws that protect her from violence and discrimination.
Understanding their rights gives women greater control over their futures and a say in critical decisions that affect them and their children – which can have a transformative impact.
'Following decades of civil war, South Sudan declared its independence and became the world's newest country in 2011. Yet, it has continued to be mired in violence. Patriarchal practices like early and forced marriage, coupled with the crippling effects of conflict, limit women's ability to obtain basic healthcare services, education, and their basic rights.' - http://www.womenforwomen.org/what-we-do/countries/south-sudan
The sponsorship of these women isn't possible without the support given by our customers. By choosing an Arya Candles product, you are making a difference to the lives of women in crisis around the world. If you haven't yet experienced an Arya candle, please consider visiting our shop.
