Due to increased security concerns in many of the countries Women for Women International work in, it is important for them to take security measures to protect the women in the program. We fully respect the security of the women we sponsor, and therefore won't be sharing any photos or personal details which may compromise their safety, unless they have given us specific permission.

With our candle sales, this is the 6th woman that we've been able to sponsor. She's from South Sudan, which has been a country mired in violence following decades of civil war.

She is currently in her second module, Health & Wellness and will be learning:

•    the prevention, treatment and management of key health issues in the family and community, and how women in particular are affected.
•    psychological health: She will learn to identify symptoms of stress and actions she can take to relieve it. Through storytelling and discussion, she and her classmates will learn to support each other and will receive referrals for further information and care.
•    reproductive health: reproductive anatomy and health; pregnancy, birth and infant care; family planning and birth control; and sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS. Her class will identify challenges to exercising their reproductive rights and will be provided with strategies for negotiation and discussion with their families and communities.
•    basic family health: the importance of a clean environment, proper hygiene, and good nutrition for personal, family, and community health. The class will also discuss the dangers of substance abuse, as well as the positive impact of living healthy lifestyles, including making time for rest, relaxation and exercise.

'Following decades of civil war, South Sudan declared its independence and became the world's newest country in 2011. Yet, it has continued to be mired in violence. Patriarchal practices like early and forced marriage, coupled with the crippling effects of conflict, limit women's ability to obtain basic healthcare services, education, and their basic rights.' - http://www.womenforwomen.org/what-we-do/countries/south-sudan

The sponsorship of these women isn't possible without the support given by our customers. By choosing an Arya Candles product, you are making a difference to the lives of women in crisis around the world.  If you haven't yet experienced an Arya candle, please consider visiting our shop.
